چکیده
We present a variation of the planar As-Rigid-As-Possible deformation designed to preserve try and preserve the area of the deforming shape. We focus on bending deformations of a planar triangle mesh. The mesh is subdivided by introducing vertices where its edges are intercepted by a circular arc spine. The spine may be moved, rotted and bent (by changing its radius) but preserves its length. The mesh deforms as if it were attached to the spine at these introduced vertices, while attempting to preserve the shape and area of its triangles. We compare our approach to alternatives, including pure bending and bending corrected for area preservation, for which we have closed-form solutions.

متن کاملArc-Length-Based Axial Deformation and Length Preserving Deformation
This paper presents an arc-length preserving axial deformation along a B-spline curve based on arc-length parameterization of the axial curve. Space spanned by arc length and rotation minimizing frame on the axis is taken as the embedded space. As in real life, the length of an object’s skeleton usually remains constant when it is axially deformed such as a swimming fish, a swaying tree etc, An...
متن کاملSkeleton Based As-Rigid-As-Possible Volume Modeling
Shape deformation and editing are important for animation and game design. Based on as-rigid-aspossible (ARAP) surface modeling, an efficient approach is proposed to approximately preserve the volume of an object with large-scale deformations. The classical ARAP surface modeling uses twostage iterations to recover rotations and preserve edge lengths. However, there is no volume preserving const...
متن کاملSkeleton-based Variational Mesh Deformations
In this paper, a new free-form shape deformation approach is proposed. We combine a skeleton-based mesh deformation technique with discrete differential coordinates in order to create natural-looking global shape deformations. Given a triangle mesh, we first extract a skeletal mesh, a two-sided Voronoi-based approximation of the medial axis. Next the skeletal mesh is modified by free-form defor...
متن کاملRealistic Skeleton Driven Skin Deformation
Skeleton driven animation is a popular method for the animation of deformable human and creature characters. The main advantage is its computational performance. However it suffers from a number of problems, such as collapsing elbow and candy wrapper joint. In this paper, we present a new method which is able to solve these defects; reduce the animator’s manual work still allowing his/her full ...
